WHO NEEDS TO TEST APPLIANCES

Employers are required by Law to provide a safe workplace.
As an employer you have a statutory obligation to provide a safe working environment.
AS/NZS 3760 is the minimum safety level businesses should meet.
• Shops
• Hotels Motels
• Industry
• Workshops
• City Councils
• Schools
• Rest Homes
• Etc,
All should carry out regular appliance testing.

WHAT NEEDS TESTING

The Government has deemed that electricity is a serious danger to the public and has recommended that all businesses test their portable appliances (anything that has a two or three pin plug connected to it and all RCD’s) on a regular basis.
This testing meets OSH and ACC recommendations and minimum requirements.

RISKS

If an electrical accident were to occur OSH could use non compliance with AS/NZS 3760 as a basis for prosecution. You could be liable for fines up to $500,000 and two years imprisonment. You would not drive your $100,000 car without insurance so why risk a far greater penalty.
The costs of periodic testing is not great and it gives you some peace of mind knowing that you have made an effort to minimize the risk of electric shock to your workers and the public while on your premises.

• Shops etc 12 Months
• Hotel and Motel Rooms & Public areas 24 Months
• IT Equipment Offices etc 60 Months
